Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick 1+2 in Dortmund, May 24, 2013

The venue took place in a Exhibition hall in Dortmund, often used for medium sized gigs. The capacity is aprox. 1.500 people (It was not completely sold out).

The event began sharp on time: Some warehouse clerks came on stage, "cleaned" with background music the screen, "discovered" a bra and a used condom is some corners...and after done that switched on the small video screen, were you saw a Garrett (filming) coming into an old fashioned doctors lab and the doctor asked him about his youth....

Lights went off, the band

(Line up:
Ian Anderson (vocals, flute, mandoline, guitar)
John O'Hara (Hammond organ, piano, keyboards)
David Goodier (bass, glockenspiel)
Florian Opahle (guitars)
Scott Hammond (drums)
Ryan O'Donnell - Vocals and stage antics)

appeared and performed Thick As A Brick Part One in total (aprox. 55 min..). As all of us I know this mother of all epics nearly note by note and it was a wonderful experience to see it live. Ryan O'Donnel took good part of the vocals from Ian, who really seemed to struggle with some passages he was performing. Using a stick as an imitation of the flute he behaved on stage as an "alter ego" of Ian, which fit wonderful. The decent use of a very small video screen from time to time concentrated all the attention to the stage. Nothing else to tell about part one than it was just great.

After a 15 min break TAAB Part 2 began. I got the CD when it came out and I was really not too convinced about it, but when listening it now live..Magic...wonderful!! The band took us on a musical trip, which you wished that it does not finish. Another overwhelming 60 min. (And it really seems, that Ian can do the vocals of the newer tunes much better than the old ones..)

Only one encore, you guess it: Locomotive Breath, and a wonderful gig had come to the end..

I saw it on the original tour in Harrisburg, PA tripping on acid. I have always thought it to be the best concert I've ever seen.
