Looks interesting. The news has been making the prog rock web sites tour. Too bad it's the weekend after Prog Day. It may have some impact on this new festival.

I don't think that the temporal proximity to ProgDay and Summer's End will bode well for this new festival. I'm tempted to contact its organizers and ask them if they think this is sage. They're also looking for a large amount of money from fans to underwrite this. I can see a few hundred to even as much as $1,000.00 but $2,500.00 for this is really out of line with the prog community.

The festival's link was added to the long list of festivals under the [Links] tab on the main page. There's a link there to this thread.

Re: OhioProg in 2012

I'm excited about this, and I plan on going, provided the fest can get enough pledge dollars. (They need a certain amount by Jan. 2, 2012.) I have no problem with the line-up or the date. It will be a shame if this falls though. I hope more of you will consider attending. Please pledge NOW if you are!

Thanks! I'm not an organizer, just a fan who loves Prog and wants to see it thrive in the USA!

Also wanted to apologize for starting a thread on this subject. I didn't know this thread already existed.

Re: OhioProg in 2012

So, if they don't get enough pledge dollars and don't do the festival do the people who made their pledge get their money back?

RE: Laudio:

FM and Arena aren't big name bands? I suppose it's relative but are you expecting Yes and Genesis or something?

Re: OhioProg in 2012

Summer's End has first priority here and I don't have enough holiday or money to go yet again to USA for the third time in 2012. So no go......

Re: OhioProg in 2012

I think that this festival is unfortunately a year too early. I am pledged to both RoSfest and NEARfest. If FARfest is held I have to go since it may be my only opportunity to see most of those bands. The Festival is held one week after Progday which has a dedicated loyal fanbase (and seems to be a great festival). Ohio prog should have waited a year, and tried to take NEARfest's slot in the year (late June early July).

I couldn't agree more.

Re: OhioProg in 2012

Certainly everyone's concern and suggestions have been noted. A number of points have been previously discussed at length months ago so I'll only make a few additional points...

The planning for OhioProg 2012 had started in November 2010...of course NEARfest 2011 was still on at that point and we understood that. We announced OhioProg 2012 on June 3rd with the full line-up (save one band) before NEARfest 2012 was even on the table, before Farfest was announced ...only one band was announced for ROSfest and no one yet announced for Progday 2012. These points are made in no disrespect to the other fests, but just to point out that as most can probably understand the early preparation was necessary for this event and it was only long after we announced the festival did the landscape change dramatically. Certainly makes sense to say we were a year too early and I can understand that given the points everyone has made...but given the points I've made, it's hard for us to believe in that. We believe in the line-up and it's a good ticket that gives you a lot of bands for your buck, a great venue and location. Some bands that may not come around to the US again.

To answer your question Mike413 people who pledge don't have to worry about getting their money back...the pledge is not processed until the goal date and if and only if the goal is met. It's a very healthy idea for ticket buyers because no one loses their shirt. You don't have to worry about a refund. This is also something that unfortunately people aren't understanding with the Kickstarter approach which we are trying to reach out and explain.

Certainly appreciate the talk and discussion about our event. We are just trying to give bands another opportunity to play the music that we all love. Jonas Reingold of Karmakantic (et, al) recently posted something about the importantance of supporting these type of events. We presented this great event in the hopes that people will come out or at least support it and enjoy a weekend of great music and fun. That's all.

Re: OhioProg in 2012

nacho220: I certainly didn't mean any insult by my post. I am a big advocate of progressive festivals in the US. I just can't afford to go to another festival this year, and was just thinking that others may be in the same boat. You certainly have a great line-up, and if it was any other year I would probably make the trek to Ohio. I only wish you the best of luck. We are in a very small community and it will only enhance that community if your festival succeeds.

Re: OhioProg in 2012

Karl... No, none taken at all! Just with a few of the recent points made, felt it was a good time to make the mention I did. We've been involved with it day in and day out for over a year so sometimes its hard for us to see that people aren't hearing about it or talking about it each and every day like we are as a staff. Like I said, the landscape changed after we had already announced so all we could and can do is continue to promote and reach out to those that are and would be interested and make sure they understand our approach with Kickstarter.

Kickstarter Update #2: 30 Days Left to Pledge Your Ticket to the OhioProg 2012 Fest

OhioProg 2012 Kickstarter Update #2: 30 Days Left to Pledge Your Ticket to the OhioProg 2012 Festival

There are now only 30 days left to get your ticket to the OhioProg 2012 festival. Thanks to those that have already pledged their ticket(s)! As you can see, there is a long way to go to reach the funding goal. However if it is easier to view it in terms of tickets, around 415 more tickets need to be pledged at the various levels in order to reach the goal otherwise this great event will be canceled. We've seen and heard interest from enough people over the past several months to make this happen, so we know you're out there!! Last week we announced the addition of two more bands to the OhioProg 2012 lineup; Glass Hammer & Kinetic Element. The announcement can be found on the OhioProg website.

http://www.ohioprog.com/news/4553607...LINE-UP/497473

Glass Hammer will be celebrating their 20th anniversary with a performance at the festival and it will prove to be one you will not want to miss! OhioProg 2012 now boasts a tremendous 15 band lineup representing 5 countries featuring headliners FM, Nightingale, Arena & Glass Hammer.

Cryptic Vision have kindly contributed 30 copies of their 2006 album "In a World" to the ticketing campaign, so the next 30 people to pledge their ticket will get their very own "In a World" album!! So if you are going, why not pledge your ticket now!

This is a great opportunity to be a part of an event funded by the fans, for the fans and enjoyed by the fans of progressive rock. Tell your friends, fans, any and all people who might help support this event and turn it into a reality. Stress to them the urgency of pledging their ticket if they want to or are planning on going. Even if you can't attend you can pledge to and help support the event and receive rewards like a live compilation CD of performances recorded at the fest, digital download, poster and more. We here at the Ohio Progressive Rock Association look forward to seeing you at OhioProg 2012!!
