Rickter Scale Show 198 - Revolution Road and X-Rayed

airing Sunday, October 12 from 8-11 PM EST and Monday, October 13 from 1-4 PM EST

This week's show (and a third of next week) will be the last of the full discs for a while. The next several shows will either showcase 4-5 songs from artists or single songs by many artists. Call this week a "lazy" show, but I really wanted to get these two on.

Rocket Scientists - "Revolution Road" (2006)

Disc One:
1) Look Up
2) Sky Is Falling
3) Dream In Red
4) Better View
5) Outside the Painted Walls
6) Revolution Road
7) Forever Nights
8) Ptolemy
9) Gypsy (Of A Strange and Distant Time)
10) Savor Every Moment

Disc Two:
1) Castles Fall
2) UFO S.H.A.D.O. Theme
3) Enjoy the Weather
4) Pay Your Dues
5) Eden Burns
6) Hold That Thought
7) House of Cards
8) After the Revolution

Yes, BOTH discs. The reason is, there is so much diversity among the songs that you feel as if you're not listening to the same band. There is no real interconnection or theme, just an hour and 41 minutes of great music. Plus it gived me an excuse to put in these dandy new promos Vaxman got at 3RP.

There is some nice songwriting, catchy choruses ("Sky Is Falling" is memorable), excellent musicianship.

The follow-up to the universally loved "Artifical Paradise", this marks the beginning of the end of the heavier Sylvan period. There is some aggression that comes out, without compromising the nice melodies that they create. I personally think they've lost their edge, but many others like the direction since. Regardless, this one's a winner, especially the epic "Gven - Used - Forgotten".

Next week I'm all over the musical map, including some non-Moon stuff and a fine CD recommended to me by our very own Mr. Magoo.

Nice show Rick. I'll miss the Sunday airing as I will be in transit home from CalProg.

Well, now it's 75% of Revolution Road. Can't play the whole record. Have some Uli Jon Roth I can throw on or maybe I'll move the Manifesto up this week. Will have to do it tomorrow night if at all...late here now.

Hey Rick, picked up that new ULI JON ROTH disc today after we were talking about the show you saw last night. I love that guy's stuff, he has such a great way of combining symphonic stuff with killer heavy guitar work. I love all the old Scorps stuff (nothing they did after he left was worth squat, in my opinion) but I really admire the way he's let his music evolve. Hope you can get some of "Under A Dark Sky" on your show at some point, people should hear this stuff.

Ray, I was thinking about replacing the portion of the Rocket Scientists I can't play with that, but I am going to play about 1/2 of it on show 201 I think (show 199 is set and show 200 will be some of my favorites). I was also just alerted of a free CD download by Tempano of their new one too, and I'm halfway through it. It's great and that will be on the same show.

For anyone that's keeping score, Ray and I are on the same bowling team on Thurs late nights. It's great to have someone that knows music AND bowls. Plus, no one knows what the hell we're talking about!

Like this disc golf thing I do, I have to find something that other people know I guess....

Sounds good, I'll be listening to as much of the upcoming shows as I can, sounds like a great selection. Good to see that ULI will be getting some time on show 201. Yeah, bowling and great music! Seems so basic, why don't more people get it?! I once had a bowling team called "Incomudro - Hymn To The Pinmen." People thought we were odd.

Thanks Rick,

I'm very happy (and was very workable ) I listened to your show and your voice.
I love Focus of course, and especially I've got charm of Rocket Scientists' album. It's so cool and excellent.
I'm lookin' forward to your show next week.
