Cookie Monster...

since we've had a few conversations lately about Opeth and the other "growlers", I thought some might be interested in this article:
Cookie Monster
Quote:
To be a true Cookie Monster vocal, said Mr. Conner, who signed some of the subgenre's biggest bands, including Sepultura and Fear Factory, "it's got to be really, really guttural. It should sound like they're gargling glass."

Re: Cookie Monster...

growling.......since I'm new to Opeth and I've NEVER liked "growling".....I'm trying rationalize my liking of Opeth. .......oh yeah! "growling": Well, I still don't like it.......BUT!!! I've been able to blend the growling into the music and let it set the mood for the song, rather than listen to it up front as having lyrics. The musicianship, production and songwriting..FAR outweighs my adversity to that...uh?......that GOTHIC,SPIKED HEADED, DRESSED IN BLACK, PEIRCED ALL OVER, DEPRESSED LOOKING DEATH SEEKING METAL HEADS. Now, having said THAT.......I was a LONG HAIRED, SLOPPY DRESSED, ANTI, NO GOOD FILTHY HIPPY!!!

Re: Cookie Monster...

back on thread~

honestly....

IMO it takes more than a castle and a badly drawn, unreadable
logo on the cover to be progressive.

i especially get a kick out of nordic bands that don't speak
english, naming themselves combinations of english words
that make no sense whatsoever, like "seiges even".

When I first heard about them I thought perhaps it was a typo - a misplaced spacebar. Seige Seven would be a better name, IMHO.

No, I'm not into that style of vocals either.
