Show 54 - "Opposites Attract"
Oh boy, a theme show! I've been hitting selected artists pretty heavy with full shows, so I thought I'd mix it up this week. Each pair of tunes (except for the first) have words in the totle that are opposites.
Focus - Answers? Questions! Questions? Answers! A great tune from Focus III. Porcupine Tree - Shallow Sylvan - Deep Inside Look for the Sylvan to resurface soon on the Moon. The copy we have is mangled.. Jeff Beck - Led Boots Return To Forever - Light As A Feather A couple of jazzy ones..."Wired" is one of the all-time greats. King's X - Honesty Genesis - The Lady Lies A mellow one from the latest King's X, and a favorite Genesis song. David Cross - Fast Anekdoten - Slow Fire Truly a yin and yang thang.. Marillion - Three Boats Down From The Candy Gong - Aeroplane A very small taste of Gong (3 minutes). Look for three hours of Pierre's Gong soon on a show near you. Jethro Tull - Back Door Angels Chaos Code - The Devil's Trombone Tull returns after a long absence, and here's a Chaos Code first album track. They've just finished their third record (first two on the Moon). Give them a try... Tears For Fears - Humdrum and Humble Finch - Scars On The Ego TFF - true tweeners... Queensryche - The Thin Line Robin Trower - Fat Gut The Trower is from "BLT", along with "Truce" two records put out by Trower with Jack Bruce. This cut is one of the weaker ones, and it's damn good. A big college record for me. Yes - Real Love Enchant - Seeds of Hate A gem from "Talk", and a live Enchant cut. Bob Mould - No Water In Hell Bruford - Land's End Dave Stewart brings his National Heath "Bryden" theme for this song, a true prog classic. The Bob Mould I've not heard, but I've seen him three times and enjoy his stuff. Barclay James Harvest - Poor Man's Moody Blues Djam Karet - Dr. Money I need to hear and get the new Djam Karet...and the Echolyn...and... I've not heard the BJH...should be interesting. King's X - Fly Genesis - The Carpet Crawlers The other side of Kx, reminiscent of Hendrix (also from "Ogre Tones"). the other song you may have heard ![]() Scott Jacks - Wintertime Blues The Who - Summertime Blues I have no idea what the Scott Jacks sounds like, but I do know that the Who song is one of my favorite songs. Whether it's the Eddie Cochran 50's version or the wild 60's version by Blue Cheer, the newer Rush version, or the Olivia Newton-John cover...well ok maybe not...it's one of the greatest rock and roll songs of all time. The Who version SMOKES! Sing along..... Well I'm gonna raise a fuss And I'm gonna raise a holler About workin' all summer Just tryin' to earn a dollar Well, I went to my boss Who governs me He said, "No, dice, bud You gotta work late" Sometime I wonder What I'm gonnna do There ain't no cure For the summertime blues Well, my mom and papa told me Now you better earn some money If one of you is gonna go Ridin' next Sunday Well, I didn't go to work I told my boss I was sick He said, "You can't use the car 'Cause you didn't work a lick" Sometime I wonder What I'm gonnna do There ain't no cure For the summertime blues Gonna save two weeks Gonna have a fine vacation Gonna take my problem To the United Nations Well, I went to my congressman He sent me back a note It said, "I''d like to help you, hon But you're too young to vote" Sometime I wonder What I'm gonnna do There ain't no cure For the summertime blues Now there ain't no cure For the summertime blues Now there ain't no cure For the summertime blues Enjoy! |

Note: this is completely off topic and has nothing whatsoever to do with the above post. But I'm under a bit of a time crunch and need to say this before the start of my conference call, two minutes hence.
So, having provided a little background info: Hey Rick! [*FWAP!*] Say thank you to Moses. Roger -Dot- Lee, I'll tell you why after my call.

Wow, great idea for a show. Makes me want to think of cool suggestions for a part two! What about opposites in one title?
"Black and White" by Three Dog Night "Sooner or Later" by King's X something from "In Through the Out Door" by Zep, like "Carouselambra" Great theme.

Showtime?
On the homepage Calender, THE RICKTER SCALE is listed as starting at 21:00.
Hasn't that been 20:00 for some time now? A correction to the calender seems in order. Look forward to Sundays at 8:00pm EST. Thanks Rick

The calendar has other issues too, maybe the Gnosis shows. I did get the correct info under "shows". If you click on there you will see the correct times of the Rickter Scale. Some of the other shows are incorrect even in the "shows" section. So in that regard I consider myself fortunate. So thanks for noticing, if it gets changed great, if not...it will be our secret! |
