If he's not pregnant (and it wasn't me ), I would assume that his "other" is able to join him! I am not able to log on to personally congratulate him, so I will do so here!

Styx II - as the resident "mainstream" rocker lol, I find this a great addition to the moon.

I agree, Rick

As the other "resident mainstream rocker", Styx II is a great addition. Hearing "Little Fugue in G" & "Father O.S.A." in the same rip today was awesome.

However, when you search the playlist for Styx, a number of un-Styx like songs are shown as being from Styx II. My guess is that we have a data entry error.

Probably more of a data corruption error than a data entry error.

I'll look into it after work (before I have to come in at 0100 tomorrow morning for maintenance).

halfway fixed

Don't know how, but all of Kenso II, FSB II and Polifemo II got relabeled as Styx II. I fixed the artist, but Roger, I didn't correct the cover since I'm not sure how to and didn't want to create a bigger problem. (Which I am oh so capable of doing....)

oh yeah, the year is wrong on those now too, but I don't have the CDs with me to check the proper year...

SAM recognizes album titles as distinct fields from the artist, so when you add a cover to a track, then upload it, then "apply to album" you will apply the cover to any track from an album with that name. So when Roger.Lee added Styx II, he added to album and it labeled every track from every album named II. When you go to add covers to albums, you can de-select the ones that are actually different albums. I can fix this after PSHores is off. Not a problem.

Hrm. I'm wondering if this is another side effect of the database corruption we had. Those were older updates to the library and I haven't touched 'em in a while.

Geh. I'm wondering if it might not be a good idea to do an entire drop and reload one of these days, especially if we get a bunch more of these.

Oh, I see what you're saying.

It may have been that the album titles (to all of them) were simply 'II'. That would pick them up that way, wouldn't they? I thought it compared artist, and in order to qualify for same album status, it had to match both artist and album name.

That makes me feel a little better. At least it might not be DB corruption. Again.

Roger -Dot- Lee, find database corruption even more distasteful than Neil Young!

Yeah, I found out that it sees all "II" the same when I added a cover like that by accident from some other two-albums with the same name, having to fix one. Can't remember now what they were. I know that both King Crimson and Mike Oldfield have an "Islands" but that wasn't it. Something like that though.

Anyway, the proper covers have been restored on all albums named "II."

Latest additions to the library, 1/11 edition

Greetings and salivations, Moonies!

I know that you all by now have noticed that I've made this particular thread sticky. No, it's not because I'm so enamoured with my own turgid prose that I expect everyone to swoon at every keystroke.

I just got sick of trying to find the bloody thing. So I made it permanent so I wouldn't LOSE it.

Anyway, here's the latest additions to the library. Some VERY interesting looking stuff. I'm going to dig around at these my very own self as time allows...
  • Clearlight - Infinite Symphony
  • Guerin, Shaun - Archives
  • Moraz, Patrick - Human Interface
  • Solstice - Silent Dance

I wonder is it possible to reset the thread every so often, say every two months, without actually deleting the thread. I mean I'm on page 8 right now.

in the right place

I usually don't get on the Moon much during the day, but I did catch the tunes Jim put on. Very nice stuff, esp the Moraz. I'll play some the next opportunity on the show.

Not sure about the Karn Evil 9 cover by Guerin though. Too close to the original w/o Lake's excellent vocal.

Good idea spaz.

Not to muddy the waters..

Just a thought... Is there any way to close this thread, clone it, and remove the "commentary" leaving only a list of album additions?

FWIW, I found it useful to review the playlist additions, as a newcomer, and found a few artists I hadn't stumbled upon in the RQ list... That's probably a minimal justification tho...

Alternatively, maybe a "read-only" thread with a single post that only "someone in charge" modifies that is simply a growing list of "Artist-album" entries... It might be a nice to have a reference list of some sort, that allows a "quick look" that is an alternative to the RQ list, where you sort of have to know what you're looking for, or are willing to click your way through...

Well, you guys have to work with it, I only have to play with it, and I'm certainly not trying to create work for anyone... just some ideas...

Hope you enjoy the Solstice...........

I was playing my vinyl copy the other day and realised that IMHO it would fit nicely onto the playlist.

See what you think..........

I'll echo fremder and say that a locked sticky is a good idea. if people want to post about a new addition, they can start another thread.

my 2¢

The mod can do it, but I don't know if it'd be worth the effort. Why would you want to know what was added in March of 2003? or June of 2004?

The list of all songs is the request list, so only the new adds are "news." As per finding new artists by looking at "old new adds" - how's that different than scrolling the playlist or just listening to the Moon and making note of interesting stuff? Just curious.

And I think that a read-only recent add list is a phenomenal idea. All it takes is for Roger.Lee to be the mod and he lock the thread. New adds come along, unlock, add post, relock.

Updates to this thread(s)

This thread that you are now reading is open for continued commentary from the beloved peanut gallery. It is not stickied.

There is a read-only (Roger and myself can post to it) thread for just the updates.

I'm thinking of keeping the read-only thread a floating one year time period - so you can peruse the last year's worth of additions, but not earlier. that should keep it to a manageable length, hopefully.

Comments?
