Sometimes when I look at a post an old page comes up. This was from July 2006, so I think I'll just keep it - saves me the trouble of thinking again!

More seriously I think the Scottish band Pallas has very well-written lyrics, and even if they're not as "historical" as King Crimson or Yes lyrics, they're still great. I like the chorus of "Who's to blame ?" a lot:

In the minds,
Oooh, though the players names may change,
A simple question still remains,

Pendragon's lyrics on "Not Of This World" are very rich too, especially on the 1st track.

For lyrics that fit more in the "historical" side of the topic, I would quote Marillion:

I think that recently the one that became very recognizable and surely one of the best remembered will be "Life is like a beanstalk". Perhaps the most distinctive line in whole SMPTe album and if we add to this that it was the most sensational album of the year then it seems it can't be forgotten.

I'll name a few more but later ..I'm very curious about your thoughts...
