Freedom Prog!
Hey,
Tonight is the first installment in a five-part miniseries on French prog. It would be impractical to try and cover everything from France in five (or even fifteen) shows, so I'm just going to start slow, do it for the month of October, and save the next miniseries until 2004. You can check out the playlist for tonight at the web-site... I wanted to start off with some "French dramatic symphonic prog", which basically means Ange and some of the bands they influenced. Ange was a pretty unique band and sometimes get a raw deal by being just randomly compared to Genesis, so I was hoping to show that they *were* their own band and that they were a big influence on what followed in France. I hope I succeeded but I'll accept if nobody cares ![]() Anyway next week will be more symphonic rock. I haven't decided exactly how to do that one. I am thinking maybe doing some of the spacier stuff like Pulsar and Carpe Diem, maybe some of the more angular material like Shylock, the more chamber-oriented like Wapasoou... I'll think of something. But it will be symph! I'll be following that with two shows on Zeuhl. The first one will be mainly Magma and their offshoots. The second will be Zeuhl bands that do not involve Magma affiliations but merely inspiration. That's just a tentative plan which I'll adjust depending on how much of category A and category B I actually have, but rest assured it will be four hours of Zeuhl spread out over two weeks. The final show in the miniseries will be the first prog-folk show I have done on Progressive Shores, focusing on the Breton scene. If you see the word "folk" and think "nah, not for me", give it a chance! I did a Breton show once before and it was one of the popular shows I ever did. It's just great, beautiful, musically intricate stuff. These five shows will take us to the end of October. I have four more shows I want to do in November: the last two parts of Greece (started in September), followed by Australia and New Zealand in consecutive weeks. As I mentioned in an earlier thread, I don't know if there will be any new shows in December as I will be moving countries somewhere around that time and I need to get a high speed Internet connection up before I can do new shows. But I love this stuff and I'll be back on the air as quickly as possible. I will see what I can do about running repeat shows in those weeks, and if anyone has a show I once did (www.toib.net/radio/ps/) they would like to hear again, let me know and we can play it during my month off. Think of it as Progressive Shores hits syndication.. <cough>. Regards, Sean
