Show 55 - "Quiz Winners"

While I'm on "vacation", six loyal Aural Moonies will be taking over the show. On Sunday, I'll be in Kentucky, and on Monday during the airing I'll be driving to Pennsylvania to see Moses. Maybe I'll say hello during the next "Fusion Reactor"....

Feel free to add your comments to your section of the show!

If you want to check out how this came about, go back a few threads. And the show this week:

Sharcnorris:

ELP - The Barbarian
Niacin - Red
UK - In The Dead of Night
By the Light of Day
Presto Vivace & Reprise

Handpicked with care by Sharcnorris, we start off the show with a bang. The ELP is a favorite of mine. to sharc! Love that UK.

Nadina:

Bruce Cockburn - Actions Speak Louder
Fish - What Colour Is God?
IQ - Sleepless Incidental
Peter Gabriel - Washing of the Water
Marillion - Living With the Big Lie
Christy Moore - City of Chicago

We've sandwiched two Nadina uploads with Moon songs. The Bruce C. is an instrumental, and the Fish record "Sunsets On Empire" is another Rick favorite. Nadina says she couldn't pick a Bruce C. tune with words cause she couldn't decide. Looking forward to meeting Nadina on Thursday....

Yesspaz:

Brainrock Hijacks the Rickter Scale
Tenacious D - Tribute
Jars of Clay - Frail
Switchfoot - Lonely Nation
Small Good Thing - Peep Show Eccentriques
Robert Earl Keen - Feelin' Good Again
Audioslave - Show Me How to Live
Brainrock Returns the Rickter Scale

Some Southern-fried prog for your aural pleasure. The Tenacious D is a hoot. Along with Rogor Mortis, one of two sections that have their own intro and outros...

Teerminator:

Bellaphon - Firefly
Ricardo Zappa - Frammenti
Larry Mitchell - There Was A Time

Not a quiz winner, but Teerm helps me out every so often on finding songs. All instrumentals (by accident), some tasteful stuff here. If it weren't for OU football, that prog scene out there would be booming!

Rogor Mortis:

Radio Mortis Discount
Nick Magnus - Sophie's Song
Khan - Stargazers
Kayak - Rings of Saturn
Mew - Chinaberry Tree
Finneus Gauge - Early Sun
XTC - Rook
Radio Mortis Discount

A subtle set from the dude from Denmark. The XTC is from Nonsvch, the masterful trilogy of XTC records (along with Skylarking and Oranges & Lemons). The Khan is awesome, and the others are nice, airy lilts.

Wojtek:

Echolyn - Georgia Pine
Dream Theater - Octavarium

The Polish Prince gives us two winners, the first from a band I am deeply into. I still need to get the new one! The Dream Theater is great. Non-fans of James LaBrie will be pleased...he's toned down a lot. A 24-minute classic epic to take us home.

Thanks all for some great music!

For the record, most of mine's purposefully [i]not[i] prog. The record by Jars of Clay just slids under the prog limbo stick, and A Small Good Thing's record easily is a prog-fusion thingy, but the rest are not. Just wanted to shake it up a bit with a dash of totally different but totally excellent music. Then back to your regularly scheduled prog.

Organists Unite!!!!

When given my 15 Minutes of fame, I really wanted to feature my favorite instrument- The Hammond Organ.

BARBARIAN is the most influential piece in my life for the awesome power the Hammond possessed. In '71 I really wanted one but at $2000 I settled for a FARFISA! This started my journey into real Keyboards first started with piano lessons at age 8.

Niacin's power Hammond thrills as the trio covers King Crimson's RED. Hold on to your seat folks

After these two I had 3 min left, I really wanted Eddie Jobsons Hammond chops off Danger Money but all to long so I found the short but explosive PRESTO VIVACE & REPRISE, not Hammond but kickass, ..Rick has Expanded this with its lead ins off UK's 1st. IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT and BY THE LIGHT OF DAY.
Having Seen this Grouping of UK at their last show and being a Bruford freak, all I can Say is....
.......Thank you Rick

I'd like to thank Rick for idea and making it possible. I appreciate your continuous effort to make this show every week, imagination and openness for such unusual quiz winners idea. It was very very nice for me to be part of it.
