1. Anyone who says Alan White and then goes on a "Bill Bruford forever" spiel doesn't know anything about drumming. Bruford is great, yes, but so is White. Who's a better guitarist, Wes Montgomery or Chet Atkins? Exactly, you can't compare them because they're different styles.
Listen to Alan's drumming on Tales, Relayer, Tormato, Drama, and Talk and drop your jaw. Ok, so he wasn't amazing on 90125 or Generator, but neither was Squire - it's a style thing.
2. Um, of the bigger bands, I'd have to say Nick Mason. He's got skill, but he's not even in the same league as the drummers from Yes, Tull, Crim, Rush, etc. Maybe Rutsey
