Not much I can say that won't sound trite, but as Opeth is a recent discovery, let me say it was all new to me and performed superbly by any standards. They were preceded by two opening bands, Dark Tranquility and Devil Driver. Both bands were entertaining in their own way, Dark Tranquilily offering a little more in the way of dynamics and melody (and whom I will investigate further over the coming weeks). Devil Driver was more of a garden variety body slam, but still fun to watch.
Opeth... well, lets just say its a privilege to watch masters at work. Like I said, they're new to me so I'm not terribly familiar with their catalog yet, so I didn't necessarily know the songs by title. They were kind enough, though, to talk a little about the songs before they played them, so I know they covered a lot of territory in almost two hours, including material from the first album to the last. Only two were from their most recent CD. They wrapped it up with The Drapery Falls, apparently a fan favorite and not hard to see why.
On a side note, Judy and I were apparently the only representatives of the senior crowd. Go figure...
