Nice!

I can actually listen this week, got it marked on the calendar.

Planet X has fallen through the cracks for me, so this will be a great chance to stick my toe in the water.

The DT is the most "AM pallatible", so there should be no issues there (tongue stuck in cheek). Good choice.

There's a big retro hard rock scene overseas and frankly I can't keep up with it. I'm hoping the Spiral Architect is just the ticket. Anyway, that was one of the best Sabbath songs, so a band by that name can't be all bad!

Index and pinky fingers extended (play)!

Yeah, spiral Architect are quite interresting. They're certianly an odd mixture. One minute I'm thinking of how the vocals sound just like Bruce Dickinson, then I'm thinking of how the guitar breaks into this odd Vai-like melodic solo while the odd electronics drone in the background. Of course, there's a lot of typical metal crunch also, but it's well tempered with said influences. They've claimed to be working on a second album, but I doubt it'll ever come out.

Planet X rocks
Dream Theater sucks
Spiral Architect intrigues

just kidding on DT.

Spiral Architect I've only heard sound clips, which I thought showed promise, and I've heard good reviews. I'll be skiing, so I'll miss the show, but Tommy, would you consider putting Spiral somewhere on ftp so I can check it out after the fact?

On "Awake", I found and listened to that CD in the local used CD store about 6 years ago, when I first heard people calling DT prog - I chose not to buy it at $7 - with my obsessive/compulsive CD buying habit, that means I thought pretty little of it. Erotomania ain't bad though.

Rock on extendedly!

Nothing wrong with a bit of Metal......

Planet X - Looking forward to this. I got Live from Oz after hearing it on The Moon and like it a lot.

Dream Theater - Looking forward to this too. I've been meaning to schedule an hour for my monthly "Stick red hot pins in my eyes" session so this fits in very well.

Spiral Architect - This should be good too. Nice to get to hear another new (to me) band.

Tommy comes up with the goods yet again!!!!!

Spiral Architect

Picked it up, it's smokin!

Too crunchy for AM, I fear, but it's a neat mix. The vocals sound like Geoff Tate, the guitarist is definitely Vai-like, and the song structures remind me of Gentle Giant.

The most interesting thing is the bass. Most metal/rock do not feature bass as an instrument playing notes out of the realm of the rest of the band. While Steve Harris is a first class player, his notes are within the guitars. This cat for Spiral Architect is a monster.

If any of you do want to sample it, you need to listen to it all. The songs change every 30 seconds or so! The middle tunes (especially "Insect") are great.

Thanks, again Mr. Play!
