PK's random anecdote of the week:

I got to meet Steve Vai for the first time in late 1981. I was 16 at the time, so he couldn't have been older than 21 or so. He was touring with Frank Zappa, and I remember Steve wore a red satin baseball cap with devil horns sticking out of it while he played truly Impossible Guitar Parts.

After the show we went backstage to try to get Frank's autograph. First we met Ray White outside (he was leaning on the limo trying to score with some groupie...perfect). He gave me two autographs...he looked at his first one and said 'Wait a minute, you can't read that' and then proceeded to sign his name more neatly underneath the first one.

Then Steve came out and was very friendly and quite happy to chat. He said that Frank wasn't feeling well, (some kind of stomach flu, which explains why he sat on a stool for most of the show) and so he couldn't come meet us since he was probably busy puking. But Steve asked for our pen and paper, went back inside, and a moment later came out with beautifully illegible autographs from Frank. I still have mine...signed on the back of a high school hall pass.
