Digressive Rock Hour
We are considering starting a new show on Aural Moon, called the "Digressive Rock Hour". It would be a one hour long show (duh!), and feature music that is NOT on the playlist, is not prog, but music that the show host (and to a lesser extent ME) feel that prog fans might like. Is there any interest, or hate, about a show like that? Let us know before we spend any more time producing it...

:eureka: We could call it the Tommy Bolin / XTC / Thomas Dolby Hour  |
Re: Digressive Rock Hour
Ah yes an idea - then we could hear the Beatles once in a while. I think we all could contribute to such a show as we all have music that is not on AM and not described as prog. There is the label "alternative" which one could shove a whole load of music under.

Re: Digressive Rock Hour
Good idea, but first let me listen what's goin on,and then shall talk. But thx in advance.

Re: Digressive Rock Hour

Re: Digressive Rock Hour
It would be cool to open some prog eyes to other well thought out music...I'm all for it... progressive music to me encompasses Ethnic music, folk, psychedelic, celtic, indian classical, all the ECM label stuff, anything thats well put together... For me..its not commercial music at all... BUT whatever it is , I think it would be cool as long as we keep a balance between the shows and just listening to already HUGE library...Shows are good but one of the best things about the moon is that you can request songs and pull from the vast library...you can always find something that you haven't heard in our library...soooo.....I think thats cool too...anyway, I'm always up for something new...so do it...just do it...

Jim,
I am very much in favor of it as well. It is worth the exposure! Regards from Texas, Ted |
Re: Digressive Rock Hour
Maybe it's a good idea to listen to my show : Vanished Rock Treasures, it's every sunday morning (local time) : 3 hours long great music from the last 50 years. Unfortunately the US people have to stay up very late because it's in the middle of the night.
Anyway : I play all kinds of good taste music. I don't care if it's prog or not. But, of course there is a lot of prog. You can tune in on www.rockfmonline.be (sunday 9 - 12 local time in Belgium). Last show I had : Andy Pratt, Arlo Guthrie, Spike Woods,Jefferson Airplane, Barclay James Harvest, Renaissance, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Roy Harper, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Phil Ochs, Dan Fogelberg, Sad Café, Spirit, Comus, Gordon Lightfoot, Todd Rundgren, Steve Young ... and many more. Greetings, ErikM |
Re: Digressive Rock Hour
Sounds like an interesting idea. Curious to see what bands you would pick. :hooboy: Just imagine? Schon & Hammer, Gamma, Animals as leaders? Go 4 it! :yougo

Re: Digressive Rock Hour
There's so much amazing music in the world that's not prog. I knew a guy who owned a record store in Birmingham (that's a city in Alabama, KW), who used to be a buyer for Tower Records in NYC. He said that approximately 10,000 albums were released each week.
Holy cow. |
Re: Digressive Rock Hour
To be honest, I think this sounds like a fantastic idea to everyone because you gave no examples. lol. Just about everyone likes SOME things that aren't prog (some more than others), so they're all thinking that those are the bands you're talking about. Of course they'd be for it. I won't be shocked to hear a lot of whining during the actual show though.
That said, I think this sounds like a fantastic idea. ;-) |

So, when I first heard about the show, my thoughts were that there could be any variety of stuff that could appeal to the prog fan. Just my two cents. |
Re: Digressive Rock Hour
I am also open to anything, musically. Cowboy Junkies, Patsy Cline, Grieg, Alice in Chains, Florence + The Machine, Collective Soul, B.B. King, Philip Glass, oh, wait, not Philip Glass...it's just a joke, Phil!
But I would like to suggest that near-prog, near-rock, would be the best fit for a Digressive show on AM. But in general, I agree Yesspaz, anything that could appeal to proggers. |
Re: Digressive Rock Hour
remember one of the first things I thought years ago it was this is a place of purists listeners so..beware !..obviously through the years that view have changed and I believe this idea will protocolize the "B sides" of everyone in moon..or maybe the A sides...who knows..really good to know music we share here is a part of a bigger catalog

Re: Digressive Rock Hour
Go for it, Spaz! I'll listen, for sure. (Unless your show is a one hour long Rovo track ;) )
|
Re: Digressive Rock Hour
I say it's a good idea. I's play everything from technical metal to blues to alt country. No techno though.
Also, more avant jazz please. |

Re: Digressive Rock Hour
I would be willing to have some input into this show. There are a lot of bands that aren't quite prog or maybe not usually considered prog that have material that would be appropriate for this show.

Re: Digressive Rock Hour
If your a progger, It's all good. When will this show air?

Re: Digressive Rock Hour
Hey, everyone. Just an update. We're two steps away from beginning the show.
I've just got to get my station access configuration finalized, and the playtimes finalized, and we'll be ready to go. I've got the first three shows complete. I've received music from nsgobbi, emperorken, 100ms, and a few others. You'll start hearing those contributions by show 4. If you want to contribute music, go to the Digressive Rock Hour forum and check out the second sticky thread. I look forward to it. |
Re: Digressive Rock Hour
nice Idea, I've been suggesting 10cc for some time now;)
