Kate Bush

Good to see her represented - "Cloudbusting" is one of my favorite songs.

Any chance of "The Dreaming" to be added too?

I agree wholeheartedly!!!!

I always say that "One in Kate Bush is worth two in the Hand!"

It certainly is nice to be 24 years old and yet still one of the most mature people here!!!:o

KeithieW 09-12-2003 09:54 AM

Being young and mature isn't all it's cracked up to be....

Think of all the experience you're missing out on.;)

Still being only 24 you've got plenty of time to "catch up".

progdirjim 09-12-2003 12:27 PM

sure, I think we can "do" Kate Bush again.:p

Yesspaz, maturity is WAY overrated!

stay tuned....

Rick and Roll 09-12-2003 12:31 PM

Maturity

should be something that's told to you, not something that's self-promoted ;)

Kate Bush sex jokes are so fun!

zvinki 09-12-2003 04:03 PM

You are mature

I think that you should be congratulated and your maturity acknowledged for exercising such self-restraint from making the one obvious (although crude) Kate Bush sex joke. I am sure that you are all biting your tongue not to type it. Congratulations again my mature colleagues.:D

LOL! Classic post!;)

Well, I picked up Kate this weekend. Her album "Never For Ever", that is. Couldn't find "The Dreaming", but will keep an eye out for it. Seems to be out of print at the moment.

Look for "Never For Ever" on the station soon...

So, like, what's the connection between Kate and prog? Don't get me wrong, I love Kate; loved her ever since I heard Wuthering Heights back when I was, maybe 12. And all my prog friends love her too.

Yet she isn't really prog is she?? Few if any of her songs are longer than five minutes...(OK, side two of Kick Inside IS CONCEPTUAL); yeah Dave G supposedly discovered her...but still. Some of the dudes in the Alan Parsons Project played with her.

This is not a meant as a criticism of putting her on the playlist; I'm just curious to know what her appeal to prog lovers is.

That's funny josephus!!! Or did you mean musically??? :p

Josephus 09-23-2003 02:15 PM

No, I know what Kate's appeal is to a bunch of prog pervs like us...I mean musically:)

[Actually, I think Kate's sexual appeal began to wane around Hounds of Love, anyways.]

Rick and Roll 09-23-2003 02:50 PM

Misconceptions

You do make a thought-provoking point about what the appeal is - but for me, I like a lot of stuff not prog (I'm not rehashing it here for the 10th time). But - if she's not in the AM genre, what is her music? Hounds Of Love e.g.- why not?

Her sex appeal for me, is incidental to the music. Listen to "Get Out of My House", and let me know if her donkey sounds turn you on. And I think her performance on the the title track of the "Sensual World" is proof there's no wane.

If there's a connection between song length and definition of prog, that's not my standard. Her songs work shorter than others. Take the song "Heavy Horses" (your picture) - that's 2 minutes too long, I think.

Alan Parsons' dudes play with everyone. I think David Paton is on a zillion records.

Did Gilmour really "discover" her? I thought she was established first. Oh well, does it really matter?

To summarize:

Her music (until the "Red Shoes") is bad-ass.
If it appears on AM, fine. If not, I'll put on the CD.
For the younger listeners, the choice should be there.
Sex, lyrics, appearance, image, politics, social commentary mean nothing to me when we discuss if a song rocks or not.

Excuse me, while I tape my ankle - I just fell of the soapbox.

zvinki 09-23-2003 02:56 PM

Top Perv on AM goes to .....

I think that you win Rick. But man you crack me up!!!!
