Having never heard them before I requested "The Dwarf" and I must say that GOBSMACKED sums up the feeling perfectly.
When I tried to vote I was told that my session was invalid......I will try again.
Kill Them??? No!!
Keep them???? Probably!!
Request them again???? Probably not!!

AM never ceases to amaze me with the diversity of the stuff around. It's costing me a fortune in buying new albums but that's OK.

well I thought I was hip to British slang, but GOBSMACKED is a new one on me - care to translate for your illiterate cousins on this side of the Atlantic? :D

No sweat Progdirjim!! It means amazed, stunned, thrown off kilter. Like getting a smack in the gob (mouth).

Hope that helps you me old china!

I've just had a ball down the frog for a pint of pigs in the local rub-a-dub and now I'm going to get the whistle off, nip up the apples and grab a few hours shut eye with the trouble. Night, night!

Uh, me too. Unless it's illegal, immoral or excessively fattening!

Please don't take them off. I am shocked and surprised that I have never heard them before since I really enjoy all sorts of spoken word. Reminds me of some old Ken Nordeen (which you should have as well) like, "how are thigs in your town?". Another good spoken word CD is "Closed on account of Rabies" short stories by Edgar A. Poe. You haven't lived until you hear Christopher Walken doing "The Raven". Keep up the good work.

Is it prog?? Strikes me more as "new age". Then again, we seem to get stuck on classification around here so I don't want to get that started again!

I find the spoken word portions of albums like Days of Future Past or Tales of Mystery and Imagination annoying...and that's just a few widely-spaced moments of talking.

That said, I don't think it's going to be played very often; hearing a Celestial Navigations cut once in a (long) while would be tolerable, just for its oddness. But don't acquire any more of it on my account.

At least one doesn't have any trouble making out the lyrics!

What's wrong with going for a walk down the road for a pint of beer in the local pub. Then getting the suit off and nipping upstairs for a few hours sleep with the wife?

"Is it prog?" is a fair question - I knew it was on the fringe when we added it. For the record, I have 3 discs from them, with a total of maybe 30 tracks, and from that I selected the few that I thought were most entertaining, or where the background music was most interesting. I enjoy it, but even owning the discs I only listen to it rarely - have to be in a particular mood. If anyone is interested, they have a web site:
http://www.celestialnavigators.com
you might recognize the narrator Geoffrey Lewis from a number of Clint Eastwood (and other) movies.

Would like to see more votes though - only three people have voted. I'm abstaining since I put them on in the first place.

I've been trying to cast a vote but keep getting told my session is invalid. What am I doing wrong?

PMFJI, your message was addressed to me but probably directed toward Progdirjim, but when I have problems like that, it's usually ZoneAlarm's "Privacy" settings. I ususally have to turn them off to do much more than post on a web board because it disables the scripts. Do you have ZoneAlarm or some other similar privacy software (AdSubtract? Webwasher?)

I agree completely with JRV. Celestial Navigations is a good spice sparingly used in our prog stew.

...but I have yet to hear the band. I requested The Train a few days ago and it took about 3 hours before the song played. By then I was not at my desk. Were there any plans to include a function in the request feature that would report approximately when a request would play? Something like "Your request will play in approximately 2.75 Hrs." Is this even feasible?

It is feasible, but illegal, unfortunately.

It usually doesn't take that long - just about an hour or so, for requsts to play. The other reason your request may have been delayed is that other Celestial Navigations tunes may have played, going over teh RIAA-set limit on how many of an artists' tracks can be played in 3 hours.

Avian, is that also why there is a minimum 1-hr wait for a request to be played? Been wondering where that "requirement" came from.

Yeppers - you can thank the RIAA for that.

The music is OK, but the narrator's voice is awful and takes away from the music. This is probably what Garrison Keillor fans listen to when they can't find anything interesting on NPR. If I need some narration, I'll stick with Godspeed You Black Emperor. Even though I want to kill myself after most of their songs, I don't want to kill anyone else. :D

Ah, so it WAS you I have to thank for requesting "The Train" this morning...;)

Awwww . . . but Godspeed is depressingly uplifting!

I just ran into this web site (http://spamradio.com) . Does this remind anyone else of Celestial Navigations, or is it just me?
